Anna Kournikova was born on 7 June 1981 in Moscow, Russia. At the age of 7, her father began teaching her how to play tennis. Anna practiced everyday. When she was a teenager, she was entered in her first tennis competition. For her looks, Anna became known as the "Britney Spears of Tennis". In 1998, during the Paris Indoors of 1998, her fastest serve was clocked at 111.2 mph. Anna's talent for playing tennis got her noticed not just for tennis competitions, but for TV as well. When she was 19 years old, she got a small, but noticeable part in Me, Myself & Irene (2000) playing a Motel Manager. She also appeared and played Enrique's girlfriend in Enrique Iglesias's music video "Escape". Anna was voted the Sexiest Woman in the World in FHM's 100 Sexiest Girls poll for 2002. In September of 2003, she sustained an injury to her lower back and worked as an on-site reporter for the U.S. networks coverage of the U.S. Open. But, as of March 2004, Anna retired from professional tennis due to chronic lower back trouble. She has never won a WTA singles title but did win 2 Australian Open doubles titles with Martina Hingis.

Ana Ivanovic started to play tennis when she was only 5, after being inspired by Monica Seles (by watching TV), also a Serbian player. It was a hard task for Ana who had to practice in the early morning in 1999 in order to avoid the NATO bombing and, during the winter time, she used to use a abandoned swimming pool, due to the lack of tennis facilities.

She was first noticed by the tennis world when she reached the final of the 2004 Junior Wimbledon tournament, losing to Kateryna Bondarenko.

The next tear, Ivanovic won her first career singles title, as a qualifier, in Canberra, Australia, (by defeating Melinda Czink in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1). That was a beginning of a string of successes; she defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva the same year,all of them being WTA top 10 players by that time.

She finished off 2006 as the 14th best ranked woman in the world. In 2007, her career continued to climb. She entered in the selected group of the top 5 world tennis players (she finished 4th just 14 points shy of Jeleba Jankovic). And as the winter of 2008, after losing the Australian Open final to Maria Sharapova, she claimed the second WTA spot. To note that she eliminated in the "quarters" Venus Williams. She was only 21 years old.

In 2008, she became the first Serbian and third Yugoslav woman ever to win a Grand Slam singles title (the others being 'Mima Jausovec' andMonica Seles) when she won the French Open, defeating Dinara Safina in the final.

Maria started hitting tennis balls at the age of four. At the age of six, Maria Sharapova participated in a exhibition in Moscow that featured Martina Navratilova. So, at the age of nine, she began training at Nick Bollettieri's Tennis Academy located in Bradenton, Florida, USA. Therefore, during those two years, she was separated from her mother for two year due to visa restrictions and finances.
